La Conner and other local wanderings

La Conner, WA

It is Friday! I am excited to finish my work for the day and enjoy a weekend of good weather, exploring, and good friends. I kicked butt at work and am feeling very satisfied with what I accomplished in my time as a remote engineer. For dinner that evening, we decided to go to a local town, La Conner. La Conner, WA It was a really cute town. We did a little window shopping and walking along the water before dinner. The pace of things seemed slow and it was fairly quiet. It was a really nice town that has a lot of charm. We ate dinner at La Conner Pub & Eater. It was a cozy tavern that was bustling with local conversation and local charm. I had the Fish & Chips, and it was probably the best I have ever had, and I am not that big of a fan of fish and chips. I liked it so much that I had fish & chips two more times on the trip, and it didn’t compare to the dinner I had on this night.

Apothocary Musings

When in Rome, do as the Romans. So, since I was in a state that had legalized marijuanna for recreational use, I decided to go to a shop and see what I could discover. Our host and I went to Floyd’s that evening after the kids were in bed. I felt like a newly minted 21 year old that was going into a bar legally for the first time. We walked in and were greeted by a friendly female that answered all of our questions and showed us many different products. She detailed the story of an older customer who had some nostalgia for the days when it was illegal still. She asked the customer if she would feel better if she snuck her purchased products out the back door and secretly handed them to her in her car. The customer said she would enjoy that. The show was a rectangle with the door on one of the short sides of the rectangle, so the shop was set up in a U shape. On the right were cannabis flowers in hundreds of different strains, all labeled with their name and THC potency. There were boxes on the counter that one could pull the top up to smell the flowers, but most things were vacuum sealed and packaged, so you could look and wonder and see the THC potency, but that was about it. On the left side were a whole section of edibles and tinctures varying in potency and dosage. In our modern day of choice, this was another representation of the endless choices that a consumer has, even in something that isn’t yet legal on the federal level in our vast country. It was interesting to see and also see that just because it was legal in Washington, there wasn’t mass chaos around every corner. As a responsible adult, you could go in and make whatever purchase you want and go home and reasonably consume the item and get on with the rest of your evening. Similar to Alcohol or tobacco. No stigma, no targeted pushing of a product if you don’t want to be involved. Just another choice that one could make. It didn’t feel dirty, the way a sex shop can feel, but rather like a tobacco shop or six-pack shop. That evening we gathered with our hosts and watched an interesting Netflix show. TV isn’t my favorite thing to do at night, and I can get bored quite easily. I am always amazed at home much those around me watch TV, and this was no exception. I had just travelled thousands of miles and just wanted to do something social, like play a card game, or have conversation around a fire. But, that didn’t happen. Oh, well. Everybody has their thing, and mine is that I don’t really turn on the TV very much. I like movies, but often can seem to find the time to devote to sitting there for that long, as much as my senses and brain enjoy going through an experience like that. If I do make a tv choice, it would almost always be comedy or zombies of some sort, or watching some NFL (mostly the Pittsburgh Steelers). Family Guy and The Walking Dead come to mind.
