Bellingham Farmer’s Market
Today we went to Bellingham to explore this cute little city and discover how the locals spend their time. The farmer’s was a square with some indoor space for vendors and a lot of booths outside of the indoor space. There were a lot of street performers playing music, including several ukulele players of all ages spread around the square, a saxaphonist, a magician whose tricks were a little boring, and a lot of places to get food and crafts. It was fun to people watch and see what everyone was up to. After getting some Sno Cones, we sat and watched some more people. I was really impressed by how much care was put into the event by the workers. A couple of workers were sorting through the rubbish that had been thrown away and taking out items that could be recycled. Impressive. That is dedication.
Boundary Bay Brewery and Bistro
Our hosts wanted to take us to one of their favorite places to eat in Bellingham. Boundary Bay Brewery and Bistro had a lovely environment with outside seating and inside seating. Apparently there wasn’t a table big enough for us to sit outside (there were 7 of us altogether), so we sat inside and ordered some appetizers to share. We had Nachos and a hummus plate that were very good. The food was impressive and tasty.
Mallard Ice Cream
After our pseudo-lunch, we walked around a bit and decided to stop for ice cream at Mallard Ice Cream. All of their flav ors were made from natural ingredients and were very tasty. It was packed and we luckily got in line at the right time, as the line grew rapidly behind us. We all got some ice cream and found a seat to enjoy our local treats.
Zuanich Point Park
After lunch we went down to the shore where a lot of boats were docked. Our hosts used to have their houseboat docked here, so it was neat to finally get to see the scene that I had heard about for years. There was a really nice park at the point with families everywhere. Our hosts got our their kite that was used for learning to parasail or something like that. It was about 6 feet across and went sailing throught the air with a lot of force. It was a serious kite that cost around $200, not the average $6 kite that is put together with string and popsicle sticks. I played a little bit racing C around the playground and we took in the sites around the park before leaving. It was beautiful and the weather was sunny and around 70 degrees farenheit.
Sudden Valley
One of the neighborhoods that our host is fond of, and I can tell why, is Sudden Valley It is a cute neighborhood outside of the city that is built on nature reserves, so you can pretty much go out your front door if you live there and hop on one of many trails. That sounds so ideal. We took a drive through the winding neighborhoods that were filled with forests and family homes. It was really lovely to dream about living there and having these rainforests at your doorstep begging you to go and be in nature. It was pretty amazing and I have never seen anything quite like it.
